Privacy Policy

Understand what is stored, shared, and under your control.

Your information, explained.

Solo practice stays on this device. Connected classes use temporary classroom data. Use a nickname or team name and keep private information out of answers.

1. About this policy

This policy describes Highlands Jeopardy, a learning tool provided for Highlands Community Charter & Technical Schools and powered by Highlands Brain. It covers the app’s features; separate school policies and provider notices may also apply.

2. Information used by the app

FeatureInformation and purpose
Solo and shared-screen playTeam names, scores, game progress, question packs, and preferences are saved in this browser so play can resume. Solo scores are not linked to a school account.
School Google sign-inGoogle/Firebase supplies an account identifier, email, verification status, and sign-in token to check school access and staff/student permissions. The app does not receive your Google password.
Connected classroomsClass codes, lesson content, display names, scores, game actions, and submitted written answers support the game. Rooms store the host’s account identifier and a hashed participant account identifier when signed in. Session secrets are hashed in room storage.
Service operationHosting and authentication providers process connection information, which can include IP addresses, device/browser information, request times, and security logs.

3. Who can see classroom information

The teacher who hosts a class can view the roster, scores, submitted written answer awaiting review, and game results, and can download a summary. Other participants receive generic labels for classmates and do not receive classmates’ individual scores or submitted written answers. Model answers and explanations are shared for learning. A projected teacher screen or a shared device can show names and scores to others present.

Only share class codes with intended participants. A code and an allowed school account can join an open lobby; the app does not check course enrollment. Teachers may enable guests with the code. Guests are off by default.

4. Service providers and optional features

The app uses Netlify for hosting and classroom storage and Google/Firebase for school sign-in. If enabled by the school, Claude by Anthropic receives teacher-entered lesson topics, categories, and notes to draft questions. The app does not automatically send student accounts, scores, or classroom answers to Claude. Teachers must not place student records or identifying information in AI prompts.

Read-aloud uses your browser’s speech service; some voices may send spoken text to an online service. Background music is bundled with the app. This build does not include advertising trackers, third-party analytics scripts, or an app feature that sells personal information. Provider processing and retention depend on their services and the school’s arrangements.

5. Storage and retention

Room access expires eight hours after creation. An hourly cleanup is configured to delete expired rooms; deletion depends on that job running successfully. Ending play shows results and does not immediately delete the room. Operational logs or provider backups may follow different retention schedules.

Saved local games, team names, packs, and preferences remain until removed or browser site data is cleared. Sign-in and classroom reconnection use browser session storage. Sign out and close the app’s tabs on a shared device. Clearing site data removes saved games and packs on that device and may sign you out. Downloaded files remain wherever they were saved and must be managed separately.

6. Your choices and requests

You can use solo practice without signing in, use a team name instead of a full name, leave optional AI generation unused, and turn music off. For a classroom access issue, inaccurate information, a privacy concern, or a request to access or delete school-held information, contact your teacher or the school office through the official Highlands website. Requests are handled under applicable school procedures and requirements; this app does not promise automatic deletion of every copy.

7. Student safeguards and updates

Use the app for teacher-directed learning. Do not enter passwords, student IDs, contact details, health information, or other sensitive records into names, notes, or answers. No internet service can guarantee complete security. Tell your teacher or school office if you suspect unintended access. This notice does not replace school privacy notices or establish a legal compliance certification. Updates to this policy will appear here with a revised date.
